    • Candescent Cool

Time has only confirmed that this album -- the poetry, the jazz-infused folk -- is on such a higher plane of consciousness that it is candescent cool... let your mind travel in the glow. Extraordinary in 1968, and still today!
    • Van the Man’s masterpiece

Van has had many hit songs on albums that are mixed in with some mediocre songs, but this album is a complete masterful piece of art. For some Van is like coffee or beer; he is an acquired taste that grows on you with each listen. It is soul, R&B, folk, Celtic and rock all mixed together with a mellow semi-skat style of improvising. Here his vocals are similar to one instrument featured among many others like Mozarts Adagio from Serenade for Thirteen Winds. I am always amazed at reviewers who mock artists because they don’t fit their taste. Van is unique and unlike any other artist. Have you ever heard any reputable artist try and cover his songs? They don’t because you can’t! His phrasing and tone are his and his alone. He isn’t for everyone, but if you like R&B and unique improvisational music then try Astral Weeks.

Nothing he did ever came close to Brown Eyed Girl. One great song - that's it. So overrated. And i am so sick of people comparing him to James Joyce and the occasional Jim Morrison comparison. Just because he's Irish doesn't mean he's James Joyce and just because his name is similar, that doesn't mean he's anything like The American Poet Jim.
    • Great Album, but this is a something of a letdown

It’s nice to have a remastered Astral Weeks. But the four extras don’t add a thing. It’s obvious why they are outtakes. Listen to them once, if you can, and then leave them in your collection. The long-awaited jam on Slim Slow Slider is kinda dumb.

One of the greatest albums ever written and produced. Nice additions to the original to boot!
