Tool forgot how to write a SONG. This is just a collection of riffs (including some very good ones) that meander along without amounting to much. There are great sections, but there aren’t any good songs. Such a waste. They are immensely talented musicians. This is utter garbage, and this is coming from a Tool fan. To all you defenders saying this is “technical” and “inventive”, Maynard is sitting back counting the dollars and laughing at YOU. Tool went into the studio, just screwed around lazily, knowing that we’d buy. Yes I bought, but at least I can see what this is. A cash grab. Shame on you Maynard, and shame on all you defenders. Put the bong down for a few minutes and admit you’ve been had. They put almost no effort into this.

I fall more in love with this album every time I listen to it, as has been the case with every Tool album. As a fan since the early ‘90s, I can’t express enough my awe and gratitude for the artistry and commitment from these guys. Just mind blowing. There are parts of this album that are absolutely awe inspiring. I want more, but if this is the end, what an amazing epic gran finale. Also, see them live while you still can. It’s worth taking a plane ride for if you have to.

before listening to Fear Innoculum. This review is based on hearing only this album. I liked “Sober” but figured the band was always too intense and didn’t buy Tool albums or listen to them. I am coming to Tool very late - and backwards. Video for Pneuma was impressive (the one isolated on drummer Carey. Wow!) so I downloaded Fear. I listen to music while I work on mechanical/electric projects in a workshop. I listen to whole albums. After hearing “Fear” a few times, I am converted, enamored, in awe of Tool’s music. I listened to Fear every day and it opened up. Layers of beauty, complexity, strangeness and power revealed themselves. This is some of the best music I’ve ever heard in my life! Apparently some “fans” were disappointed by this album. I feel sorry for them. I look forward to hearing Lateralus and Aenima for the first time. Lucky me.

I’ve been waiting patiently for this album. I am blown away. It’s more than perfect. You can’t point your finger at Maynard because he was waiting patiently as well, and in the meantime he has written and recorded brilliant songs with A Perfect Circle and Puscifer. Every song Maynard has recorded is pure gold. He has inspired my life way longer than Jesus has, and continues to do so. Thank you Adam, Justin, Danny, and Jimmy. Amazing
    • The album is really well written!

Everyone should take notes on how they created this record. Mind you this album took over a decade plus to write and the week it comes out it topped all the pop artists and won a grammy. If thats not the most Rock N Roll thing to do in society in todays world I don't know what is and they haven't even changed their sound. Greatest band ever.

This album isn’t crap like many a crybaby has said, but it sure ain’t the second coming of Lateralus. In fact, I’d call Pnumena a rip-off of The Patient. It is, however, admirable that Tool didn’t change over the course of 13 years when most bands sell out deep into the mainstream around that time, but it’s also a problem. Each album after Undertow evolved and was different from the previous, but this one feels stuck. The title track is a standout though. Hopefully next time they’ll experiment a little bit more.
