    • Buy this after you fall in love with Kind of Blue

Everyone will tell you that Kind of Blue is Miles Davis' best album. That's not wrong, because KOB is an incredible work of art. However, it is my opinion that In a Silent Way is Miles' masterpiece. If you care about jazz music at all (and if you own Kind of Blue, that would be you), then you need this record in your collection yesterday. Sit back in your favorite chair, kick off your shoes, put on your best headphones and prepare to be amazed. If you really enjoy it, check out the expanded Complete In a Silent Way Sessions 3 LP set as well.

Truly great, but get the complete sessions. That is something I wish I had done.
    • It started at Newport in 1969...

Miles attended the Newport Jazz Festival and stayed for the entire concert because Sly and the Family Stone had been invited. Between Sly's grooves and Jimi Hendrix's space oddessey, Miles was hungry for new electric sounds. With a new (and old) cast of characters, he started the "Jazz-Rock Fusion" genre with this record. John McLaughlin and Tony Williams are outstanding, and Dave Holland on bass is listening closely to the others. Having said that, one must give much credit to Joe Zawinul. I think his vision is what carries this record through... Basically, you MUST have this record. It's that simple.

Miles Davis is the best jazz musician ever, and it definitely shows on this album. If you like Miles Davis, make sure to check out Birth of the Cool, arguably his best album.

Indeed one of Miles' greatest fusion recordings, and one of his all time greatest. The beginning of In a Silent Way is in my opinion, one of the greatest moments in jazz. Highly recomended. I don't know what else to say, man, I just wanted to get my word out that this is a great album that I have indeed heard all the way through.

I am 13 years old and i am a MUSIC fan. My dad turned me onto this kind of music by playing it all the time during my childhood. Take an hour and listen to the whole album. But WARNING! This is not for the weak of mind. The complex chord structures and catchy riffs are hard to grasp at times. I HATED THIS WHEN I FIRST HEARD IT, but it really grows on you. It's great when you just want to relax.

I puchased this when i was 17 and then it wasn't what i thought it was. Over time it grew on me in a big way and this is really one of my favorites. It's on tape so i'm purchasing it again 15 years later digitally. This will be great!

Every song by this man is perfect. Long, complex, beautiful, flowing, and this record is no different. Pick it up.
