Listening to this album is like getting punched repeatedly in the face with amazing sounds, and then coming back for more again and again.

      By for the "heavy soul"
I hate the radio and most mainstream music is crap. this album was recommended to me and I was blown away. “Heavy Soul” says it all. “THE BIG COME UP” will not disappoint you!

Quite simply, this is an AMAZING blues rock album from a band in a time where there is no place for blues rock. And to be a debut alum is even more impressive. They were heavily compared to the White Stripes because they were a duo that had similar sound and both had a band name with a color in it but The Black Keys have sooo much more talent. This album takes you back in time when music was played with passion, not money, especially because the band had no money at the time. But every note and every word sung on this album oozes heart. You can tellt hat they were doing what they loved. As far as the fidelity goes, a lot of people think it sounds messy. Well, they recorded and produced the record in Patrick's basement on an 8-track. Of course it's going to sound messy. But even if they had better equipment, it should still sound like this. That's blues rock. It's supposed to sound like that; raw, stripped down and unpolished, and they most definitely hit the nail on the head with the fidelity of the album. If you like blues rock like R.L. Burnside, Muddy Waters, and Junior Kimbrough (The Black Keys' main influence and inspiration) and haven't heard this album yet, 1. get out from under the rock in which you're living and 2. BUY THIS ALBUM! Then buy the other Black Keys albums Thickfreakness, Rubber Factory, and Magic Potion beause those also have a similar sound
    • A great album

Love the album, hate the way the bonus “hidden” track is split. Wish they would quit splitting songs with 20 minutes of silence. It greatly detracts from the listening experience. A great rock/blues album all the same. I really like their garage band sound! It’s awesome!

So raw! I want to go drinking with Dan Auerbach's guitar tone. I can't get enough of this album!

This is a great album but whats up with the las track "240 years before your time". Its 23 minutes long and after the first few minutes the song ends and the last 20 minutes is just silence… it'd be nice if iTunes would fix this

If I didn't know what the album was, I would swear these songs were 1970s originals. I'd buy it on vinyl, if I were you, though. That's CLEARLY what it was meant to be heard on.
    • This is an awesome band

A little too messy. Talent gets lost in the messiness. And please don't compare their version of She Said, She Said to the Beatles version. Not even in the same ballpark. Tight, precise production, playing and vocals, versus sloppy and distorted. The vocals are basically spoken on this version.
