Apple needs to do a better job. Nanci has never been pop, she’s always been in the country/folk genre!!!!!!

Nanci Griffith is a stellar songwriter. On this collection she chose to tip her hat to those she considers great and who gave her inspiration and instruction. It’s what you’d get if a great American novel writer chose her favorite reads; interesting even if they don’t match your tastes. Still, she makes these her’s because she’s also a great performer. I’ve seen her twice. Digging deeper, the performers, both musicians and supporting vocals, are artists who were then and have become masters of several genres. It’s a Who’s Who and given the age of this collection, it shows Nanci was always out front looking behind her with respect. Other Voices, Other Rooms is a classic.

every song tells a tale, beautifully written, sung & composed. I fell in love with Nancy Griffith listening to this album, for years now. She has the most amazingly special identification with the listener. She also knows a well written song to display her beauty. My suggestion, buy the entire album, you will not regret it.

Astonishing talent at interpretation, and wonderful voice. Thanks to some anonymous Wikipedia writer for being instrumental in my discovery of this great singer. I was searching for interpreters of Woody Guthrie, and found the entry for "Do Re Mi" and bought the entire album, discovering in the process some amazing and beautiful by my childhood guitar hero, Chet Atkins. And also the lovely Iris DeMent. The entire album is just chock full of talent.

I'm usually loathe to give an album 5 stars...but out of my large collection of music, this one ranks easily in the top 10-15 albums. For anyone who is a fan of American folk music, your collection simply isn't complete without this album. It's simply excellent. The sound is unpretentious, (as folk music should be)...and despite the number of high profile guests, the album remains completely Nanci Griffith's. She makes the songs her own and turns in one of the best albums of her career. The instrumentation is tasteful, restrained and played with precision. Her takes on Across the Great Divide, Tecumseh Valley, and Boots of Spanish Leather stand practically on par with the originals, and her "Morning Song for Sally" is simply devastating (in a good way). If you like this kind of music, it would be a mistake not to get this.

Listened to this on a loop many years ago crossing the panhandle with everything I owned n the back of a rented truck. It still sounds as perfect as it did then.

Surprising that no one has reviewed this yet. This was my intro to Nanci Griffith and since then I've acquired all of her albums. If you like Nanci Griffith, you probably like some of the artists she covers on this disc. All the tracks are great, Across The Great Divide and Tecumseh Valley stand out (not surprising considering who wrote them - Kate Wolf and Townes). Good production, great songs, great musicians...well worth the rice of admission.
