Many reviews here seem to focus on The Ballad of Richard Nixon, a track made of a few seconds of silence. This album was released in 1969, just after Nixon took the oath of office for the Presidency. An earlier track on the album is the Ballad of Spiro Agnew, a Tom Paxton song about Nixon's Vice President, that has the lyric "I'll sing you a song of Spiro Agnew, and all the things he's done...." followed by silence, implying that Agnew had not done anything of note. The Ballad of Richard Nixon several seconds of silence is an obvious gag that implies Nixon has done even less. The album is a solid debut album, with a mix of Denver-penned tunes and good folk songs from the era. It includes his own Leaving, On a Jet Plane, which Peter, Paul and Mary had taken to the top of the charts, as well as the title song, a very good song that would be a standard for his concerts and repertoire. Circus and Daydream are solid folk songs written by Denver as he was finding his voice. It showed the promise he went on to fulfill to be a global star in the 70s and humanitarian.
    • So silence is now copyrighted?

Yes vsause brought me here. I just want to see who's gonna actually sell 4 seconds of silence thinking that it contains some "deeper meaning."
