    • His best work!

Son House is personally my favorite blues artist. I go as far to say he's the greatest of all time and this album proves it. He wasn't the greatest blues guitarist by a long shot, but what he delivered was pure, raw blues. His vocals and blues arrangements are superb on this album. The bonus material is good despite the several takes in between. You get to hear his transition from beginning to end on most of his classics.

Grinnin' in Your Face is one of the best songs ever. The combination of Son's voice and the acapella delivery with the offbeat hand claps are haunting and moving. Buy it, you won't regret it.

An absolute must have album - the foundation for latterday blues an absolute gem from Pearline to the classic Grinnin' in your face which also appears on an unusual album by Climax Blues Band 'Rich Man'. Buy this album with no regrets - phenomenal.

Simply stated, BUY IT!! Son House is at the forefront of Blues as it began to be recognized in its own genre! He has so much emotion in his voice it just tears at your heart strings and he is equally as commanding on guitar in his approach. Son House and Robert Johnson are my two favorites of the Delta Blues era and style hands down!! Second to none! A must have for anyone's music collection, because you can't call your music stash a collection until you own a piece of Son House!

"There ain't but one kind of Blues and that consists between a male and female that's in love." Spoken by the man himself. Son House is the master of the Delta Blues. "Death Letter" is one of the greatest songs ever recorded. There is so much feeling and it's so raw. "Grinnin' In your Face" is one of the most original pieces I've ever heard. Music started from the spoken word, and Son House is a master of his craft. If you love blues, or if you're just starting out... Son House is where is starts and ends. Get this and everything else by him, you'll love it and carry it with you forever...

Son House is by far the raddest bluesman in the world! I love him and want to have his babies even though I am a straight male. But seriously you should buy it cause if you want rad blues Son House kicks Robert Johnsons butt.

If you love the pickless, hand strummed rhythm on the original "amplified" sound of a resonator guitar, then you are in for a real treat with this masterfully done release! It is chock full of the sound of the Delta blues, long before artists left the south to go into the major cities further north (e.g. Memphis, St. Louis, Chicago, Detroit, etc.) and "plug in" with the new fangled electric guitars... this stuff is in your face, and in your heart, RAW! As the original reviewer said... this is essential to your collection!
