An Overlooked Gem

As the lead to the iTunes review so clearly states, Carole King's first solo album is easily the most underrated recording of her long career. You can clearly hear the traces of her development to "Tapestry" a year later, and yet I think some of the songs on "Writer" are even better. The standout for me is "Eventually," which continues to have incredible social relevance 36 years after it was recorded. But that's not to say the other songs are any less worthy of being singled out. Interestingly, with James Taylor having made "Up On The Roof" a staple of his live shows over the years (and I'm a big James fan as well), I have to say that I like Carole's recording of the song much much more. If you've never had a chance to buy this on vinyl or CD, I highly recommend you download it now. Talk about value for the money...this has it in spades.
