    • Exquisite!

I was introduced to Philip Glass as a young man and thought that minimalism was akin to watching grass grow. Then, recently, I heard 'The Light' on the radio while driving. I knew it was Glass's style but it developed more like a symphonic movement. When the announcer said it was by Philip Glass, I was hooked. The pairing of 'The Light' with Symphony 4 is genius, since both pieces evoke similar emotions. Some of the passages are so achingly beautiful they bring tears to my eyes. Glass's symphonic palette is rich and satisfying on the deepest level. Don't let an early prejudice keep you from enjoying this gem. See (and hear) the light!

If contemporary composers have been hard for your ear, Glass, in this symphonic music will easily access your understanding and enjoyment. The Light will illuminate, the "Heroes" will resonate with the hero within you.

i am an abstract photographer and the only composer that can provide me with the proper soundtrack to my vision is glass. i can see more clearly through glass than other modern composers. "the light" will take you on a reluctant trip, blow you off course, and strand you in an american version of industrial art. glass is not plastic.
