This is instrumental music and it is soft and easy on the years. It is a stretch to say that helps in deep meditation.

Indian classical is not new to me and I am quite intrigued by some of the ragas which tend to touch the listener very deeply, creating an intense spiritual experience. The anicent Dhrupad style of Alap, Jod, Jhala sequence is a great way to expand the raga and it sets the mood very well. Many masters like Ravi Shankar follow this style. However, for the unitiated, the format used is a rather short and sweet one - though it is a pleasure to listen such performances, it doesn't go very deep into the mood of the raga. This album tries to use the latter approach to create a deep impact and that doesn't do well. The flute playing is technically ok but the mood shift between tracks might not gel well with serious listeners. Also, first four tracks are full of pathos and there is a chance that it will create a sad effect.

This recording captures the unspoiled purity of the classical Indian flute accompanied by the Tamboura. The simple but powerful compositions bring the mind to an exquisite place of stillness, refreshing your whole being and turning the attention within. The flute is masterfully played by venerable V.K. Raman, one of the greatest musicians of classical Indian flute alive today. He not only is an accomplished musician but a yogi who poured his whole heart into the project. The Indian classical flute developed independently from its Western counterparts. Made with bamboo, Indian flutes are keyless. There are two main varieties used--both played in this recording. The first is the Bansuri, used predominantly in Hindustani music. The second is the Venu, which is mostly used in Carnatic style, the music of the South of India. Each track has a different raga improvisation which has the power to soothe the mind and has the power to bring the body to a state of complete calm and relaxation.
