DTB has true talent. It's rare to come across a band that stands out from all the rest. One of my favorite bands!!!!

This album may go down as the defining album of Truck's career. Simply incredible.
    • A Blues Album, and a great one.

With Already Free the Derek Trucks Band melds all of its influences into an album that has a very rootsy, bluesy sound to it. The Doyle Bramhall songs aren't my favorite, but the rest of the album is pure gold. It has a relaxed, very organic vibe to it. A great blues CD.
    • The Best album of 2009!!! Excellence throughout.

I absolutely love this album. I bought it earlier this year and listen to it constantly. It is a very uplifting album from the very first track, an absolute searing cover of Bob Dylan's 'Down in the Flood' all the way through to the last track. I am not a music snob, but this album should absolutely be nominated (and win) for multiple grammy awards at the years end. If you are looking for great guitar oriented blues rock album that is soothing to the soul & spirit, buy this album!!! The best $10.00 I've spent in recent memory. Thank you Derek Trucks for this music that I will treasure for years to come.
    • I have a beef with the description of this cd- it

Ok look, this is kind of off topic, but I have to take issue with the description for this album. "Down In The Flood"- it BLOWS my mind. It's an INCREDIBLE cover. Probably the best Dylan cover since Hendrix did "Watchtower". HOWEVER, where does this album description get off saying it adds an "extra funk that Dylan wouldn't DARE attempt". First of all, you shouldn't be claiming that there is anything Bob Dylan wouldn't DARE to do. The reason Trucks was able to make a song sound as spectacular as "down in the flood" does is BECAUSE of Dylan's lyrics and songwriting. Dyland wrote this song thirty + years ago! He has reinvented it a COUNTLESS amount of times! If anything, it should be noted that, like any gifted songwriter/musician/writer, etc, he and Trucks share a common talent: picking up where the other one left off. Great artists can sense potential in their bones. Trucks probably had that brewing in him for a while and then decided to unleash. It's a searing, fire-breathing version of that song, but to say it's something Dylan wouldn't dare attempt is crap. Anyway....this album is great, particularly if you like slide guitar, the blues, and drinking and playing cards while listening to it! "Down in the Flood" is APOCOLYPTIC. It's THAT good.

Excellent album overall. Alongside 'Songlines,' this is probably DTB's most cohesive, satisfying and most fully-realized album to date. The playing is top-notch - strong, soulful and tasty throughout - and the album has a warm, homey, uplifting feel. Not every song is a winner, but the majority are outstanding, and the great playing and arrangements (including the addition of a horn-section) are well worth it. This is a great listen for anybody, and a must-have for Derek fans.
    • Just saw the band live...

I can't recommend this album more. I just saw them live in Fargo, ND and they are amazing. This is music that has substance, soul, it makes you move and feel and just smile! Not matter what you do, see them live - what a show!

Now, if you're a new Derek Trucks band fan, or a previous one, this is the one you have to have on your iPod. At first, songs like Down In the Flood, Something to Make You Happy and Sweet Inspiration are gonna stand out, but after listening to it a couple of times, the others become really enjoyable. Really interesting styles on this CD, and overall, a must have!!!

Showcases the awesome guitar virtuousity of Derek Trucks while solidifying the "world blues" sound of this band. I can't hear it enough!

Only exceeded by dTb live. Opened with "Get What You Deserve" in Rochester and Burlington and built from there. Don't ask if, ask when. Buy this recording and travel for a musical experience unequaled. This band just plays!
