She Finally Won the Grammy

After five consecutive nominations, Kathy Griffin finally won the Grammy for Best Comedy Album. Griffin is a master storyteller and there are moments of hilarious brilliance here. The opening bit around an alleged murderer is a highlight as are her riff on familiar topics like Justin Bieber, her family and Redbook. Less successful is a name dropping bit at a celebrity's birthday party. I have a few complaints on this recording. The edited profanity hurts. With a comedian like Griffin, the profanity is essential and hysterical. She's great at swearing and it hurts to have it removed. Also, the teaser bits ruin the flow of the recording. Finally, releasing this as one bulky 45 minute recording with no division feels sloppy and lazy. Griffin should show more care over her edits. I love Kathy Griffin's work but the sloppiness of the presentation is disappointing. Still kudos to Kathy for taking the Grammy.
