I bought the album after watching the video (on Hulu) covering Nathan and his album’s creative process. Nathan East is a collaboration with the “Who’s Who” of the music industry and is a treasure in my music collection. As diverse as the range of music and artists Nathan has worked with over the decades, Nathan East is long overdue and worth the wait.
    • I caution myself, as I love his work.

Nathan East is one of my favorite modern bassist. I have seen him perform live many times and I enjoy his work. The problem I have with this CD is not with his playing nor the arrangements but how it was produced. He plays a Yamaha bass which is a very clean, clear sounding instrument coupled with his amazing skills makes me wonder .. Why the need to over compress his bass? and Why on every song? I really believe that in the hands of a different producer this cd would be a hit. Each cut has the same compression, why for sustain? You really notice it when the guitar solo comes so sweet and clear. I love you Nathan, but you might have been better served by letting someone else produce the work. Having voiced my feelings, this will be one of my favorite cds.

2014 is not over yet, but I can’t foresee anything else being released this year that will come close to this release. Thanks Nathan….we needed this.

The arrangement of Sir Duke is genius. Just PHENOMENAL. I also really loved SeveNate, Madiba, and this stunning arrangement of America the Beautiful! There are some brilliant happenings that distinguish this album from other jazz albums. Nathan's sound is classic and I highly recommend this album! Not to mention that Stevie Wonder is on it. That alone should tell you how amazing this album is. I loved it.
