One of, if not, Bowie’s Best.

As a longtime Bowie fan, I have all of his officially released albums as well as many unofficial releases. This LP is my all- time favorite Bowie record. The title track is an epic ten minute rocker that introduces us to the Thin White Duke. The rest of the record contains funk, rock, and perhaps Bowie’s greatest ballad after Life on Mars, Word on a Wing.
There is not a weak or wasted moment on this record.

The Thin White Duke, Bowie’s character/alter ego from 1975-early 1977 was a nasty, cynical character who, as Bowie has said, was part of what was the worst years of his life. However, without the Duke persona, this album would never have the beautifully vicious guitar and synth hooks and elegantly snarling lyrics. This album is one of his best, and certainly deserves a 5-star rating if I’ve ever seen one.
