Thomas Newman never ceases to amaze me. He's one of our modern day musical geniuses. This score in particular captured every single moment and emotion we were led to feel in this miniseries, taking us to New York to experience the tragedy of AIDS during the 80's, and some of the very few happy moments in this series (Meryl's Mormon character befriending a homosexual). Newman score big with this one!!

One of the most beautiful, touching and heartfelt soundtracks Ive ever heard for a film score. It captures every single moment perfectly in the movie. Brilliant acting from everyone! The Main Title and Ending Title are my favorites.

This is one of the most beautiful and inspiring film scores around today! This is music making at its finest. I'm really glad that he left the band "The Innocents" back in the 80s to pursue film scoring, because it is definitely in his blood and he's a master at it. I'm also happy to see some young and upcoming composers on the scene, like Nico Muhly, Abel Korzeniowski, Kerry Muzzey, and one of my new favorites, Josh Kramer, who's "Beginnings" album has been on repeat on my iPod lately. And definitely check out "The Reader" for those of you who like the brooding and pensive stuff.

I think this is one of the best music scores of all times. It complimented the visual genius of the mini-series, and elevated Kushner's words (as if they needed elevating). Mr. Newman's music stands beautifully alone as well. It is transcendant and original. It makes me think of flying with wings, and witnessing life with all it's weight and lightness represented.

I saw Angels in America, and loved it. However, I do believe if this music hadn't been placed in the movie, the movie wouldn't be nearly as good. This music is absolutely amazing. There are some pieces of music in this set, that I don't care for, but for the majority I love this set of music. "The Mormons" is an absolutely divine piece of music.
Listen to the samples before you buy, some of these songs aren't for everyone.

As some movie directors have asserted, sound and music are HALF the movie. The first time I heard Newman's music and noticed it was American Beauty. Amazing. I then noticed he did the music for one of my favorite Altman movies, The Player. Ah, should have caught that sooner. Now, Thomas Newman has written a great score for Angels In America. I once spent a morning on a day off hiking through the San Francisco Bay Area, listening to nothing but a loop of the Main Title from Angels In America. Never got tired of it. The use of the oboe reminds me of the work French composer Georges Delerue, very nice.

Okay, of all the 5-star scores there are, this one I'm least enthusiastic about. It's more of a 4 1/2 for me.
The music works well for the miniseries, but sometimes it just becomes queer -- as in weird, not homo.
The Main Title is not the best track, though it may be the most popular, trust me, there's a few other tracks -- that I haven't familiarized myself with, or else I'd give you some titles -- that sound way, way better than the others.
Overall, buy this, but only a few tracks are worth listening to more than once.

Thomas Newman's Music from Angels in America did not win best score at the tv Emmys. WOW. they in hollywood r really smokin something. Like the Oscars, they still don't know how to give the right deserving party their Oscars either.
