      My wife doesn’t remember album titles or artists as she samples my library. I put Speaking of Now on recently and she said, “oh, that’s the pretty one.” It’s rich and complex, too, but I think her adjective deserves to lead this review.

      When I first heard As It Is I always said that Speaking of Now is and always Will be my favorite album by Pat Metheny. This is and always will be the best album by him. As It Is will always be the best song.I love this album. The best songs on this album is,As It Is, Proof,Another Iife, and The gathering sky. It really completes the album, and that's why I will love this album forever. This is the #1 by Pat Metheny.

      Genius. Indescribable but for an excellent podcast About The Music, where this album is highlighted. Lyle Mays does an incredible job of organizing 10 super layers of music and probably more than that in terms of planes of improvisation. Like any *masterpiece*, you probably will like it much more the fifth time than the first time and the 10th time and the fifth time. You know what I mean. /Ian Andrew/

      I bought this album when it was first released in 2002. I’ve listened to it hundreds if not thousands of times since then. Have I ever tired of listening to Speaking of Now? Never. Will I ever tire of listening to this album, with PMG at it’s absolute best? Never.

      Arguably the best PMG studio recording to date and I've got them all. The complexity of the arrangements, syncopated rhythms, vocal harmonies and musicianship are sheer joy. Antonio Sanchez and Cuong Vu brought new life and energy to the band and it is evident in the performance of Pat and Lyle. Do yourself a favor and purchase this cd. You'll never tire of it and in fact it gets better with age.
