The Way Up

You need to listen to this a number of times. I've been a " Metheniac" since the 79 group album. Like many listeners I experiment with other sounds and always find my way back to Pat. I witnessed this live in Minneapolis a few years back and it unequivocally remains the most astounding live performance ever.

The music is just full of so much emotion... It's just too hard to explain.

This album is too incredible. Its the pinnacle of what music can be. Its a universe of sounds and perfect melodies that take you on a journey. Mindblowing. Metheny is an absolute genius.

At first listen, you may not really appreciate all that is going on here. But each time you listen and examine the intricacies of this body of work, you will see just how carefuly crafted and beautiful this album is. What really did it for me was when I saw the Way Up concert. PMG played this album from front to back and did not miss a lick. It was absolutely incredible to see/hear the musicianship and artistry of this album come to life. A great experience!

Its a cliche to say it doesn't get any better than this but it doesn't. I wish this was on the way up but even if this turns out to be the top, that's ok with me.

This is the best album, in my humble opinion, that was ever produced so far by PMG. I place emphasis on 'so far' because knowing PMG there will be more. I love listening to this album on my long highway drives...just me and PMG blasted through my Bose system. It's such a wonderful experience and Part Two is played more often because there are parts to it that are just amazing. It's like a great story and you get to repeat your favorite scene over and over. I would love to see PMG perform this live!!! ahhhh...

I've sat for 10 minutes trying to put into words how great this piece is, and it cant be done. For me personally, it has served as a reminder as to how powerful/wonderful music is.

Pat Metheny and Lyle Mays. This is my favorite composition from two great composers that always bring out the best in each other when writing or performing on stage. Incredible!!!

This is one of the most complex...yet perfect pieces I have ever listened to. An absolute perfection of Jazz quartet form, intrerlaced with improvisation that weave you in and out...up and down. This is a piece of work that just keeps getting better. The more you listen to it, the more you get out of it. I have been a PMG fan for 20 + years but this piece is is ground breaking territory. Outstanding!
