The album overall was okay. The band definitely tried to infuse a more "pop-like" sound into this album with songs like She's So Mean, Put Your Hands Up, Our Song, and Radio. Don't get me wrong, these songs are pretty good, but just not expected from MB20. With She's So Mean and Our Song being singles for the band, you can definitely tell they were trying to reach a more mainstream, poppy audience. Other songs sound much more like the MB20 we all love, including Parade, Overjoyed, I Will, English Town, and Sleeping at the Wheel. Overjoyed was a solid pick for a second single, but I was disappointed Parade was not chosen as a single. The remaining songs in How Long, The Way, and Like Sugar just have a different feel. When hearing some of their songs that aren't on the album (Waiting on a Train, I Don't Wanna Be Loved, I Believe in Everything, Straight for This Life, Not Tonight Josephine), one wonders why they didn't replace the weaker songs on the album.
    • A few good songs, but definitely not MB20

This album has a few good songs, but something is missing. The hard rock grind, and something intangible but very real is just not all there. There are brief glimpses of the old MB20. A flash of the passion in Rob’s voice, a brief flash of heat from the band as a whole, but then it flickers out as quickly as it had appeared. Maybe you guys should give Adam a call and try a little harder to bring him back.

Different from previous albums? Yep. Too different? Nope. Great? Yep.

From what I've heard of the new album so far, I can see why some people are complaining about they new "pop" sound they have. A good example of this is "Our Song", but I think if you listen more carefully (especially to "Overjoyed") you'll find that you can still hear their origins. Sure, everyone loves Exile, but I think this can find a way into your hearts as well. Just in a slightly different place.

I knew some of Matchbox20s main hits but i never really followed them or bought one of their albums. Came across this on itunes and fell in love. Almost every song is outstanding

Watched them in concert last night in Tulsa, OK. It was their first stop on their first tour in a while and yes, they still got it. It was phenomenal! This album is just as great as the rest too.
    • Unfortunately North lacks conviction and depth.

I've been a fan of these guys since they were in Tabitha's Secret, and I can honestly say I think North is pretty awful. The whole album with the exceptions of Parade, Asleep at the Wheel, and possibly Overjoyed lack both lyrical and musical conviction. It's like the guys got together to hang out in the studio for an evening and recorded the whole thing without really trying. Mostly gone are Rob's touchingly poignant lyrics that slotted him as one of the greatest songwriters of our generation (not to mention his raw vocal tones that have been MIA since MTYTYA). Likewise, Kyle's impressive guitar chops don't even attempt to surface throughout the entire record, instead they are mostly replaced with Paul's new overbearing acoustic rhythms. We got a taste of this reinvented sound with Exile, but I didn't realize at the time it was foreshadowing something this disappointing. I'm still keeping the faith, I just hope we don't have to wait another decade for redemption.
