The self-described Grocer Of Despair never fails to "teach old [and young] hearts to mend". His songs helped me over the bumpy bits for fifty years.
— He is the soulmate that one never quite meets but is always there…

Maybe I am not thinking straight, but I downloaded from the original CD and this Itunes version is missing the best of his songs,
that being "You Know Who I am." Even the art work attibuted to the album is wrong. That's not to say it isn't a wonderful collection of his songs. They are beautiful and heartfelt. However, you'd be better off going to the library and getting the original recordings.

Great album, yes, but an analogue recording that doesn't justify the price. I have just recently (Jan '09) picked this up at Look&Listen for $3.99!
A classic, nuff said.

Lets be frank, this guy can't sing in the classical sense. Some how his music is still captivating, and very important. This is my favorite collection of his work I would recommend it to anyone though seriously, it's not for everyone. He some how manages to evoke perfection while being obviously flawed, pure genius.
Songs that speak to your soul ...your spirit...hauntingly, beautifully

For years I have let my spirit hear the songs this genius of lyrics has captured. Reading about him has given insite into a few of the songs as he was writing about himself and others whom he was with in the 1960's. I have always loved listening to Janis Joplin however his song Chelsea Hotel No. 2 put a greater insite into her world with just a few words -They had the Music. He takes a few lines and desire can hit you deep with thoughts of the past and with the next line the your tortured heart is brought up stronger. I love his music now with his deep voice penetrating through my soul. He is truly the poet of his time and I look forward to future songs.

Your 73 Old Man!!! Born One year before Elvis. You ARE the little Jew who wrote the bible. Leonard Cohen is the best lyricist of all time. I love you Morrison. I love you Dylan. Sorry. No one has consistantly captured words so beautifully entwined in song as you Herr Cohen. You are a Titan among lesser gods and dillatantes.
