...for coming down off the mountain and embarking on the road at the youthful age of 70+ years to perform your remarkable lifetime of songs which we were so fortunate to hear in Seattle. The voice is still magnificent, heartfelt and soulful, accompanied by angels Sharon Robinson and the Webb Sisters.
The best Leonard Cohen album. A masterpiece.

I can't recommend this album highly enough. A near-perfect career overview, "Live in London" is rich, vibrant, funny, sad, smart, sardonic, true and wonderful. The elder statesman's "golden voice" has aged to perfection, and the smokey, bass-driven arrangements (yes, the musical director is a bass player) create an unparalleled mood -- like a night of cigars and brandy with Simone de Beuvoir and Ernest Hemmingway... in a bordello... with a monkey and a plywood violin. It's an amazing feat for a 75-year-old poet. Pay special attention to "Who By Fire" and "First We Take Manhattan," but download and drink in the entire set.

This is such a beautiful album. I saw a show from this tour in Seattle and it was one of the best concerts I've ever seen (and at 60, I've seen a lot). The quality of the music was incredible, the staging and choreography of the performance were superb and the emotional depth of the lyrics and singing were very moving. I'm much more into music than lyrics, but his performance had it all. I never paid Leonard Cohen much attention until I was talked into going to this show (and I still might not be enthused if he was solo), but with the band he had that night, it was a peak experience. Frankly, it made the Dylan show I saw a few weeks later sound very tired and "bar band." This album captures Cohen's performance perfectly. God, that band....!
